Dr. Kelsey Nissen

Chief Executive Officer of the New Brunswick Chiropractors’ Association

Dr. Nissen: a mother, clinician, life-long learner, and now Chief Executive Officer of the New Brunswick Chiropractors’ Association. She has had an extremely eventful 5-year journey since graduating from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), in 2017. Amidst the excitement of starting a family, undergoing major surgery, and starting her practice, Dr. Nissen began her Master’s in Applied Health Services Research through the University of New Brunswick in association with the Atlantic Regional Training Centre. After completing the course work, she experienced an unexpected hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it was not ideal for many reasons, she was thankful as it was during this time that she gained various degrees of research experience. She worked with the CCGI on guideline appraisal and patient/clinician resources and with a local research company (Centre for Innovation and Research in Aging) as a Research Therapist, where she designed and monitored virtual reality exercise as a form of rehabilitation for seniors.

It was through this stream of opportunities that her passion for the profession and ambition to be in a leadership role grew. Now, Dr. Nissen feels fortunate to work alongside of the inspiring individuals, role models, and mentors that helped fuel her desire for continued growth and drive toward self-betterment. She is continually learning and adapting as she develops in her new role and the other critical roles and responsibilities that present. Knowing the impact that chiropractic has on the population and the health care system, Dr. Nissen has a desire to be amongst those representing the profession and contributing to the positive direction in which it is heading. Dr. Nissen is eager in her new role and looks forward to future opportunities with ongoing collaboration, growth, and success.

Dr. Adam Solis

Having graduated from CMCC during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Adam Solis began working in his hometown of Oakville, ON inside an established multidisciplinary clinic of 43 years with intentions of purchasing. One of the most important lessons he has learned since: things don’t always go according to plan (as if the global pandemic wasn’t indicative enough)!

After an 8 month stint, Dr. Adam left his associateship position to open his individual practice again in Oakville, ON – a saturated chiropractic market for. However, since opening 6 months ago his autonomy has grown, his stress has decreased, and income has rose significantly.

He attributes this to a) knowing his target demographic and b) knowing where his target demographic are present. Dr. Adam hopes to encourage other would-be chiropractic business owners to make the decision to open their owned practices sooner, rather than being stuck in the “working for others” mentality indefinitely.

Running a business is not something that many professional students feel they have a strong understanding of. Even most established clinicians site “just figuring it out” as they went along. If you have any specific inquiries about the initial set-up pains of a clinic & onward, Dr. Adam encourages you to reach out to learn from both himself, your other peers who have either made the move alongside or prior to you, and the OCA directly for its many resources.
